This flower growing course consists of six learning modules. Each of the modules offer valuable information that you can absorb quickly and put into practice straight away.

Module 1. Introduction to flower growing - 27/09/25

  • Where to start

  • Tools and equipment

  • Explanation of gardening glossary

  • Discussion on types of flowers to grow and their purpose: edible, dried, or fresh

Module 2. Understanding flower colour, form, and growing conditions - 04/10/25

  • Planning your growing space: garden beds or pots

  • Environmental considerations: aspect, wind, salt air, and sunlight

  • Plant spacing, staking, and netting

  • Optimum harvest stages for multiple varieties

Module 3. Water, soil, compost, and mulch - 11/10/2025

  • Soil composition, texture, temperature, and microbial life

  • Water retention strategies

  • Differences between dirt, soil, compost, and mulch

  • Benefits of crop rotation and cover crops

Module 4. Propagation techniques and the art of growing from seed - 18/10/25

  • Successful seed sowing methods and benefits of growing from seed

  • Growing mediums: seed-raising mix, sand, perlite, and vermiculite

  • Evaluation of pots and containers: sharing pros and cons

  • Demonstrations of propagation, seed sowing, and seed-saving techniques

Module 5. Plant health, and how to manage pest and disease - 25/10/25

  • Homemade compost teas and natural remedies for thriving ecosystems

  • Non-chemical methods for managing common pests and diseases

  • Fertiliser options and application rates

  • Understanding pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, insecticides, and their environmental impact

Module 6. Marketing, sales, and price setting - 01/11/25

  • Industry standards: stems per bunch, stem length, pricing, and consumer demand

  • Product presentation: bouquet wrapping and styling demonstrations

  • Learn how to extend the vase life of fresh flowers

  • Supplier list for floral wrapping and presentation materials

Course location: Baringa Community Centre, 20 Edwards Terrace, Baringa
Time: 1:30pm - 3:30pm on Saturday afternoon
Course dates: 27/09/2025, 4/10/2025, 11/10/2025, 18/10/2025, 25/10/2025, 01/11/2025

Cancellations and refunds:

If you are unable to attend a course, you have booked and paid for:
A friend or family member is welcome to attend in your place. You will need to provide us with their name, dietary requirements and contact email address/phone number as soon as possible prior to the course date.

If we receive 4 weeks’ notice or more:

Farlows’ Floriculture will refund the full cost of your course.

If we receive less than 4 weeks’ notice:
We are unable to offer a refund or transfer as we have inadequate time to re-sell the place. A friend or family member is welcome to attend in your place. If you find you are unable to attend a Course with less than 4 weeks’ notice, please let me know. A course purchased as a gift carries the same cancellation policy.

If we need to cancel a course:
Farlows’ Floriculture may cancel any course due to illness or very low numbers, and you will then have the option of a transfer to another course of the same value or a full refund of your payment.
